Sudbury Camino 2020
Our annual summer event is back, with a new format to engage hikers and walkers while respecting social distancing rules!
Challenge yourself this summer by joining us for a unique event being held in the spirit of the annual Sudbury Camino, and experience Sudbury in a whole new way! This on-foot journey will be taking place in the month of August, from Aug. 1st to Aug. 31st, 2020, and invites you to challenge yourself as you explore our community's compelling urban landscape and breathtaking natural surroundings!
We welcome you to either walk the traditional Sudbury Camino route OR to select a target trail goal and complete a series of alternative routes at any point during the month of August to get your name in the draw for a chance to win 1 of 3 Kivi Park pass prize packages, and to redeem your personalized Sudbury Camino virtual certificate of accomplishment! The draw for the Kivi Park pass prize packages will take place on Sept. 1st.
The RRA team recognizes that we all need to work together to stay healthy as a community during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the Sudbury Camino 2020 is a self-guided event and has been planned in a way that will support participant safety and Public Health guidelines. It is our hope that this event will be embraced and enjoyed by many, and that returning participants will encourage others to enjoy and explore our local trails!
Please note, during this self-guided event participants are hiking trails at their own risk. RRA will not be providing the following supports that have been traditionally associated with the Sudbury Camino event:
- Guided hike leaders
- First-aid and medical support
- Rest stops and water buggy
- Shuttle busses
- Designated parking
- Printed Sudbury Camino Passports
STEP 1: THE RULES & INSTRUCTIONS
Step 2: Registration
Step 3: Choose your Sudbury Camino Hiking Option:
ROUTE OPTION 1: TRADITIONAL SUDBURY CAMINO ROUTE
Inspired by the famous El Camino de Santiago pilgrimage routes, the traditional Sudbury Camino routes offers a unique Camino-like experience as you discover the Greater Sudbury's portion of The Great Trail (Trans Canada Trail) in a 30km, 21km, 15km, or 4km segment. All participants who complete any of the Sudbury Camino route segments in the month of August will receive a personalized certificate of accomplishment and get their name in the Kivi Park pass prize pack draw!
In its entirety, this 30 km journey begins at the Kinsmen Sports Complex and finishes at Moonlight Beach. However, this challenge is made to be tailored so that you can create the kind of experience you are looking for with varying start points offering unique experiences!
Don’t forget to take pictures at the following landmarks: Kinsmen Sports Complex (Hillfield Trail - Lively), Southview Greenhouse, the Downtown Market, Living with Lakes, Bioski Cottage, and Moonlight Beach.
You also have the option of completing the original 21km Sudbury Camino hiking route, starting from Moonlight Beach and finishing at Southview Road if you prefer - directions linked below.
You can find more details about how to submit your Sudbury Camino trail activities and answers to frequently asked questions related to this route on the event rules page.
ROUTE OPTION 2: PERSONALIZED TRAIL GOALS
The Sudbury Camino 2020 invites participants to take part in the journey by creating personalized trail goals that will allow you to customize your own unique Sudbury Camino experience.
To create personalized trail goals, you will commit to explore a number of local trails of your choosing. All participants who hike a minimum of four local trails in the month of August will receive a personalized certificate of accomplishment and get their name in the Kivi Park pass prize pack draw!
Commit to one of the following Trail Goals:
- Explore a minimum of 4 local trails in the month of August.
- Explore a minimum of 8 local trails in the month of August.
- Explore 9 or more local trails in the month of August.
While we do encourage you to explore the RRA Trail network, we also invite you to explore any local trail of your choosing.
Don't forget to share your trail photos on social media or via email! You can find more details about how to submit your Sudbury Camino personalized trail goal activities and other related information on the event rules page.
