The SMP was initiated by the Healthy Community Cabinet in 2010 to coordinate and encourage walking, cycling and other forms of active transportation as a means of getting to places where people live, work, learn and play. The RRA was commissioned by the Healthy Community Cabinet and the CGS to complete the report. The full report can be obtained on the SMAP website.

Commuter Challenge

Commuter Challenge is a friendly competition between Canadian cities and workplaces to encourage more sustainable commuting in walking, cycling, taking transit. carpooling/ride-sharing, and telecommuting. The annual week long event in early June celebrates active and sustainable transportation. Find out who the Sudbury 2016 Community Champions were.

Bike Valet

Since 2011, Greater Sudbury can access bike valet parking at community events, recently at the Northern Lights Folks Festival Boréal and the Up Here festival. In partnership with the Sudbury Cyclists Union, now known as Bike Sudbury, portable bike racks are installed to provide secure bike storage continuously supervised by volunteers. Accessories such as helmets, packs, and bike trailers can also be left with your bicycle.

Walk Sudbury

Initiated by the Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury in the Summmer of 2016, Walk Sudbury aims to better support walking in Greater Sudbury by signing walking routes with fun wayfinding signs. Wayfinding will point out destinations and display the walking distance in steps and minutes.
