Urban Poling

Urban Poling classes begin at 10:30 am Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. (Effective June 1 - 30 2017)

  • Monday: Adanac

  • Tuesday: Kivi Park (no extra poles available)

  • Thursdays: Bell Park at Elizabeth St. Entrance (First-timers, please make sure you have signed-up at the Parkside Center in the YMCA building prior to participating)

  • Fridays: Kivi Park Poles can be provided EXCEPT ON TUESDAY or bring your own (with boot tips). Please arrive 10-15 minutes early for instructions. Events are cancelled where your safety is of concern (storms, icy conditions).

These urban poling (nordic walking) opportunities are brought to you by Judy, Myfawny and Patricia. They can help you achieve better pole walking techniques and will lead you on a great fresh air walk in good company.

Urban poling (Nordic walking) uses 90% more muscles than just walking and turns walking into a full body workout! It improves your posture, balance and stability while burning up to 20-40% more calories than walking. The RRA brought a surge of urban poling to Sudbury with our 2014-2016 Trails4Life program.

Are you interested in trying it with certified volunteer instructors in a friendly no-stress environment? The RRA has teamed up with the Greater Sudbury Public Libraries, the Parkside Centre and the YMCA to bring you urban poling opportunities. If you're an experienced urban poler, you might also be interested in joining the RRA's own series.
